Knowing About HEART BEAT

Your heart rate, or pulse, is the number of times your heart beats per minute.

The best places to find your pulse are the:

wrists
inside of your elbow
side of your neck
top of the foot

To get the most accurate reading, put your finger over your pulse and count the number of beats in 60 seconds

Your resting heart rate is the heart pumping the lowest amount of blood you need because you’re not exercising. If you’re sitting or lying and you’re calm, relaxed and aren’t ill, your heart rate is normally between 60 (beats per minute) and 100 (beats per minute),

A slow heart rate can be a sign that you're healthy and fit.
An athlete's heart muscle is in better shape, so it doesn't have to work as hard to keep up a steady beat.

How Other Factors Affect Heart Rate

Air temperature: When temperatures (and the humidity) soar, the heart pumps a little more blood, so your pulse rate may increase, but usually no more than five to 10 beats a minute.
Body position: Resting, sitting or standing, your pulse is usually the same. Sometimes as you stand for the first 15 to 20 seconds, your pulse may go up a little bit, but after a couple of minutes it should settle down.
Emotions: If you’re stressed, anxious or “extraordinarily happy or sad” your emotions can raise your pulse.
Body size: Body size usually doesn’t usually change pulse. If you’re very obese, you might see a higher resting pulse than normal, but usually not more than 100.
Medication use: Meds that block your adrenaline (beta blockers) tend to slow your pulse, while too much thyroid medication or too high of a dosage will raise it.

Heart Beat Vs BloodPressure

Sometimes your heart rate and your blood pressure go hand in hand.
For example, when you exercise, or get angry or scared, they both go up.

But they're not always linked. If your heart rate is normal, your blood pressure may not be. It could be too high or too low, and you may not realize it.

Even if your heart rate seems fine, get your blood pressure checked regularly.

SUMMARY :

  • Normal Heart Beat Should be between 60-90 beats per minute.
  • But for Athelets it would be 40 beats per minute.
  • we can hold our Wrist with thumb and count the Pulses for 20 seconds with a timer set. Then Multiple with 3 for the count you get, which results the Heart beats per minute of yours.

Which soap do you use? Toilet soap or bathing bars?

Toilet soap is the soap used as a toiletry and the toiletry means - an object or cosmetic used in making up, dressing, etc. Due to the word toiletry, we misunderstood the concept of toilet soap. Cambridge dictionary defines the toilet soap as “a sweet-smelling soap that is intended for washing the body”.

Soap is used to clean the body and it is catagorised as toilet soap and bathing bar. The distinction (toilet soap and bathing bar) is made on the basis on amount of fatty material used to manufacture the soap. The thing to note is higher fatty material soap has better cleaning ability. Toilet soap contains more fatty material than bathing bar, so they soften the skin than bathing bar.

Total Fatty Matter (TFM) :
The soaps are rated in terms of Total Fatty Matter (TFM) contents. Good TFM soap has a good cleaning and nourishing property. TFM is a measure (in %) for identifying the amount of fatty matter present in soap i.e. more the fatty material present in soap, it is good for skin. In ideal saponification process, the ratio of fats to bases is 5:1. If we consider 5:1 ratio then TFM value of soap is 83.3% (but observed max value of TFM is 80%).

According to Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), there are two types of soap - toilet soap and bathing bar. TFM content in bathing bar should be less than 60% but not less than 40%, while toilet soaps are categorized in three sub-categories depending on their TFM content. The TFM content of Grade I toilet soap should be 76% or above. TFM content of Grade II toilet soap should be less than 76% but not less than 70%. TFM content of Grade III toilet soap should be less than 70% but not less than 60%.

Summary :
*Toilet soap High amount of fatty material and TFM ranging from 60-80%
Bathing bar Less amount of fatty material and TFM ranging from 40-60%

  TFM % in 3 Grades.
---------------------------------------------
Grades                TFM%
---------------------------------------------
GRADE 1       76% or above

GRADE 2      > 70%   and < 76%

GRADE 3      >60% and <70%

-----DIABETES DIET ---- 60 : 20 : 20 --- Carbs : Fats : Proteins -----

Diabetes diet for Indians should have the ratio of 60:20:20 for carbs, fats and proteins.
"Per day calorie intake should be between 1,500-1,800 calories with a proportion of 60:20:20 between carbohydrates, fats and proteins, respectively."
Should "have at least two seasonal fruits and three vegetables in a diet plan."

  •  Drink tomato juice with salt and pepper every morning on an empty stomach.
  •  Intake of 6 almonds (soaked overnight) is also helpful in keeping a check on diabetes.
  •  Whole grains, oats, channa atta, millets and other high fibre foods should be included in the meals.
  • Milk is the right combination of carbohydrates and proteins and helps control blood sugar levels. Two servings of milk in a daily diet is a good option.
  • High fibre vegetables such as peas, beans, broccoli and spinach /leafy vegetables should be included in one's diet.
  • Pulses are important in the diet as their effect on blood glucose is less than that of most other carbohydrate containing foods.
  • Good fats such as Omega-3 and monounsaturated fats (MUFA) should be consumed as they are good for the body.
  • Natural sources for these are canola oil, flax seed oil, fatty fish and nuts. These are also low in cholesterol and are trans fat free.
  • Fruits high in fibre such as papaya, apple, orange, pear and guava should be consumed. Mangoes, bananas, and grapes contain high sugar; therefore these fruits should be consumed lesser than the others.
  • Small frequent meals: A large meal gives rise to higher blood sugar in one's body, therefore it is essential to take small frequent meals to prevent both higher and very low blood sugar values and keep them constant. Small in between snacks can be dhokla, fruit, high fibre cookies, butter milk, yogurt, upma/poha with vegetables etc.                                                                                                                          A person with diabetes should follow a diet which is low in carbohydrates, high in fibre and contains adequate amounts of proteins, vitamins and minerals; and avoid fatty foods and sweets. He/she should also take frequent small meals (5 meals pattern).

  •  In non-vegetarian diet, seafood and chicken can be taken rather than red meat as red meat contains higher amount of saturated fats. Also, patients with high cholesterol should avoid egg yolk and red meat.

Lowering your Blood Pressure

1. Cut the salt:
--No more than 2,000 mg of sodium or five grams of salt — the equivalent of one tea spoon — per day.
--Common Source of Excessive salt-- Processed and packaged foods, fast foods, and canned foods

2. Eat potassium:

This mineral helps lower blood pressure.
The recommended daily intake for adults is 3,510 mg.
Potassium-rich foods include: beans and peas (approximately 1,300 mg of potassium per 100 g),
 nuts (approximately 600 mg/100 g),
 vegetables such as spinach, cabbage
and fruits such as bananas, papayas and dates (approximately 300 mg/100 g).

3. Modify your diet:
Eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables for fibre and reduce processed foods in your diet.
Avoid salty food like sauces, pickles, chips etc. Fruits and vegetables are low in sodium and high in potassium which helps in lowering blood pressure.
Reduce fatty and fried food, especially saturated fats/transfats and replace them with polyunsaturated fats.

4. Check your weight:
Blood pressure tends to increase as weight does. E
Fortunately, it's also true that BP tends to drop as weight does.
For optimum health, an adult should maintain a Body Mass Index (BMI)

5. Exercise:
Getting enough sleep, deep breathing, meditation, yoga, and exercising for at least 30 minutes daily can help reduce stress.
Examples of moderate activities are brisk walking, cycling, gardening and housework.

6. Limit alcohol:
Not only does too much alcohol raise blood pressure, repeated excess drinking can lead to long-term BP increases.
It is important to limit your alcohol intake.

BLOOD

BLOOD :
* Your body has about 5.6 liters of blood.
* This 5.6 liters of blood circulates through the body three times every minute.

HAEMOGLOBIN :

Haemoglobin (Hb) is an iron-containing protein in blood cells that carries oxygen throughout the body.
The NORMAL LEVEL of haemoglobin in blood is 14-18 mg/dl for men and 12-16 mg/dl for women.
Low haemoglobin levels are due to Deficieny of below

*IRON
*Vitamin C
*Folic acid
*Vitamin B12

Ways to increase HAEMOGLOBIN LEVELS   :

FOR IRON :
-----------------
Vegetables :

Leafy vegetables like spinach (palak) and fenugreek leaves (methi), beans and lentils like masoor daal, chole, moong daal, toor daal, urad daal, rajma. Asparagus (Shatwar)
and sesame seeds (til) are other good sources of iron.

Grains :           Grains like barley (jav), rice, semolina (sooji), bajra and maize (makai) can also be included.
Dried Fruits :   Dried fruits such as almonds (badaam), dried peaches or raisins (manuka).
Non-Veg :        Meat and fish

FOR VITAMIN C :  Vitamin C rich foods helps the body to absorb iron from foods.
-----------------------
Fruits :          guava (peru/amrud), kiwi, papaya, oranges, strawberries and grapefruit.
Vegetables :  capsicum (Shimla mirch), broccoli (hara phool gobi), cabbage (Gobi), tomatoes and spinach (palak).

FOR FOLIC ACID :
----------------------------
Fruits, Veg :  lentils, dried beans, peas, Brussels sprouts (chota band gobi), banana, corn (makai), beets, pineapple and peanuts.

DON'TS :
--------------
*If you are deficient in iron you should avoid having calcium rich foods like milk and cheese. They block the absorption of iron.
*Don’t drink too much of coffee, tea and alcohol either.
*If you are having more of Vitamin C sources then you’ll have to increase the intake of folic acid as well
because Vitamin C causes excretion of folic acid from the body

KIDNEYS

Preventive Measures for Kidney related diseases.

1)Drink 2 Litres of water daily.
2)For  a healthy person need to urinate 1 litre daily. Do you?
